Punjab Barani Tract
Barani Tract is spread over thirteen districts of Punjab. ABAD is mandated to function across the Barani tract, though all of the ongoing projects are limited to Potohar region.
Introduction
The Province of Punjab has 51 million acres geographical area out of which 18.6 million acres is comprised of Punjab Barani Tract (PBT). The PBT spread over 13 districts viz; Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Attock, Chakwal, Mianwali, Khushab, Layyah, Bhakkar, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Narowal, Gujrat & Sialkot. The Tract exhibits a wide range of physiography, grouped into five broad categories viz; mountains, Piedmont, river flood plains, dissected uplands and deserts. The ecological diversification on the basis of rainfall and topographical features are classified into seven zones namely Northern Hilly Region, Potowar Upland, Salt Range and the adjoining plain, Siwalik Piedmont Plain, Thal, Sulaiman Range and the adjoining plain, and Riverain areas.
