Subsidy on Gram

Gram is the largest Rabi pulses crop accounting for 76% of the total production of pulses in the country and it occupies about 5 percent of the crop area. Punjab produces more than 80% of overall production in the country. Generally, the farmer uses un-certified seed due to which production and yield suffers. Therefore, the Agriculture Department launched a subsidy scheme for provision of certified seed to the farmers through registered seed companies of FSC and RD. The aim of this scheme is to increase the per acre yield of Gram through promotion of certified and healthy seed. Rs. 2000 per acre will be paid to the farmers to use certified seed through e-Vouchers. This scheme is for main Gram producing districts i.e. Bhakkar, Mianwali, Khushab, Sargodha, Muzaffargarh, Layyah, Rajanpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Jhang, Bahawalnagar, Chakwal and Attock.

Objectives

  • Main objective of the agriculture sector is to increase productivity / production
  • Promotion of gram cultivation, production and make the province self-sufficient
  • Promotion of certified seed
  • Increase the income of the farmer

Outcomes

  • Self-sufficiency in gram production
  • The price of Gram will be maintained at a certain level that will keep price in the reach of the common man
  • Increase income of farmers

Pilot Testing of Innovative Technologies to Improve Water Use Efficiency

Overview

The government's vision for the agriculture sector, along with other initiatives, encompasses water conservation and water productivity through enhancing water use efficiency by using soil moisture monitoring gadgets. The proposed project aims at evaluation of climate smart interventions and their demonstration for enhancing the water use efficiency at farm level vis-à-vis improving water productivity and crop yield. Enhancing water use efficiency will significantly contribute towards improving the water productivity and resultantly trigger the growth of the rural economy.

pilot

Objectives

  • Enhance water use efficiency (WUE) of flood irrigation method by using soil moisture gadgets, Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD) method and Direct Seeding Rice (DSR) technique
  • To calibrate and demonstrate the impact of soil moisture gadgets on improving water productivity as compared to conventional method of irrigation scheduling
  • To indigenize / standardize the soil moisture monitoring gadgets under local environment
  • Capacity development of the professionals and farmers for enhancing WUE through different innovative techniques

Outcomes

  • Saves water up to 35 percent
  • Increases yield  by 8 percent
  • Reduces energy use up to 35 percent
  • Improves produce quality
  • Curtails nutrients cost

Oilseed Crops Promotion

Overview

The Oilseed Promotion Programme has been launched by the Agriculture Department for the year 2019 - 20 to 2023 - 24 with an allocated budget of 5490 Million PKR. Farm Machinery and Implements

Overview

Farm machinery including tractors and implements, used in farming to save labour and time. Farm machines include a great variety of devices with a wide range of complexity: from simple hand-held implements to the complex harvesters. Agricultural machinery is of special importance in increasing agriculture yields and production as it improves the quality of work, enables carrying out work on schedule and reduces labor. Agricultural Mechanization Research Institute (AMRI), Multan is undertaking R&D for low cost and appropriate agricultural machinery and farm mechanization technologies. The institute is providing industrial extension service to the local agricultural machinery manufactures for production of standardized and quality machinery and implements. It also provides technical assistance to other government departments for selection and procurement of agricultural machinery and equipment.

Activities

For every activity, there is separate section for all the procedures/activities performed by the institute:

  • Design and development
  • Fabrication and workshop
  • Test and trial
  • Agronomy
  • Instrumentation section
  • Experimental research farm
  • Testing laboratory
  • Farm machinery and equipment display
  • Technical manuals of farm machinery

Objectives

  • It is a facility for farmers to save labour and time
  • Important in increasing agriculture yields and production as it improves the quality of work, enables carrying out work on schedule and reduces labor

Outcome

  • To increase crops yield and production using farm machinery

Drive against Adulteration of Agri. Inputs

Overview

Quality and prices of fertilizers and pesticides has always been an area of concern for the farmers as well as for the Government. With a view to provide quality inputs to the farmers at notified prices, the Chief Minister’s Task Force on Fertilizers and Pesticides was constituted in year 1996.

The Quality and Price Control system has been named as Zero-Cost Fertilizers and Pesticides Quality and Price Control System. Zero-Cost Quality and Price Control System proved instrumental in launching the largest anti-adulteration and anti-profiteering campaign in the history of Agriculture Department, Punjab. It can serve as a model system for resolving the issues of quality and prices at the district level. In future, it would prove a very beneficial tool for all stakeholders of the agriculture sector.
