Overview
This Wing was created during 1984: With the debacle of cotton crop during 1983, a specialized wing, namely, “Directorate of Pest Warning & Quality Control of Pesticides” was created in July, 1984 with the main aim to save the Agricultural economy from any pest out break and total crop failure. Total strength was 631 with two posts of Deputy Directors at Cotton and Rice Zones, while posts of Assistant Directors at District and Agricultural Officers (PP) at Tehsil levels
- 1987: After three years successful completion of project, the department was regularized and the post of Project Director was changed to Director of Agriculture.
- 2005: Keeping in view the importance and achievements of the Wing, the Government elevated this Directorate to Directorate General based in Lahore.
- 2010: Upon up-gradation of this department from Director to Director General there remained a gap between the post of Director General & Deputy Director. Therefore, it was felt necessary to fill this gap and strengthen the strengthen Directorate General, 2 posts of Directors (one for cotton zone based at Multan and second for Rice Zone based at Lahore) were created.
