Location:

  • The project will be implemented in Thal including Bhakkar, Layyah, Mianwali, Jhang, Muzaffargarh, and Kot Addu districts.

Project Objective:

The key objective of the proposed project is “to bring uncultivated area under irrigated agriculture through land and water resources development and promotion of high value agriculture in Thal”. The main objectives of the proposed project are delineated hereunder.

      1. To enhance agricultural productivity in the Thal region through modern farming techniques, and promotion of high-value crops suited to arid conditions.
      2. To improve water availability and efficiency through adoption of efficient irrigation technologies.
      3. To increase gram productivity in the Thal region through provision of subsidized farm machinery and improved cultivation practices.
      4. To enhance farmers’ income and livelihoods through diversification into high-value agriculture, value addition, and improved market linkages.

Project Components:

Water Management wing

    1. Development of 500 irrigation scheme (Cost Sharing: 70:30)
    2. Installation of solar coupled drip irrigation systems on 10,000 acres (Cost Sharing: 70:30)
    3. Installation of solar powered Sprinkler Irrigation Systems on 1,000 acres (Cost Sharing: 70:30)
    4. Construction of 500 Water Storage Ponds (Cost Sharing: 70:30)
    5. Provision of certified citrus plants on 10,000 acres (Cost Sharing: 50:50)

Agricultural Extension Wing

  1. Provision of subsidized 1,500 thresher (Cost Sharing: 50:50)
  2. Provision of subsidized 1,500 drills (Cost Sharing: 50:50)
