Project Brief
Name of the project: Transformation of Agriculture in Pothohar (WM Comp.)
Total Cost: Rs.6,926 Million
Gestation period: Three Years (2025-26 to 2027-28)
Location: Pothohar districts of Punjab (Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum and Rawalpindi)
Project Objective:
The key objective of the proposed project is “to bring uncultivated area under irrigated agriculture through land and water resources development and promotion of high value agriculture in Pothohar”. The main objectives of the proposed project are delineated hereunder.
- Develop cultivatable land and water resources for cultivation of high value crops
- Promote irrigated agriculture through promotion of high efficiency irrigation systems and lift irrigation
- Cultivate olives, groundnut, ginger and other high value crops and provide oil extraction units
- Training and capacity building of farmers for efficient use of land and water resources and high value agriculture.
Project Components:
- Installation of 1,700 solar coupled lift irrigation schemes
- Installation of solar coupled High Efficiency Irrigation Systems (HEISs) on 1,700 acres
- Provision of 270 Laser Land Levelers to the farmers/ service providers
- Construction of 250 watercourses in the command of 15 Small Dams
